"I first went to New Orleans at age 6 in 1976. Although my family left there in the late 80s, I lived there twice since then. The last time I returned was late May of 2005, months before Hurricane Katrina made history on August 29. I evacuated the night of the storm and came back 6 weeks later. I lived in the Upper Ninth Ward, Bywater, until August 2008 when I took an Amtrak train to California."
